Every great institution begins not with a plan, but with a feeling. For the Great Moving Train Social Club International, that feeling was grief — and what followed it was something remarkable: the decision to never face grief alone again.
Italy, 2020: The Moment Everything Changed
Six Nigerian men were living their lives abroad — building careers, raising families, navigating the particular solitude that comes with life far from home. Mr. Chinedu Okafor, Mr. Chinatu Ubani, Mr. John Matthew, Mr. Nnamdi Muodukwu, Mr. Chuks Ikwuakolam Omumu, and Mr. Daniel Anyaeri had found in each other something rare: a genuine friendship that endured across distances and differences.
When Mr. Daniel Anyaeri received news that his mother had passed away, the grief was immense. But what happened next was the true beginning of the Moving Train. Mr. Chinatu Ubani reached out to the other friends and made a proposal that would change all of their lives: let us form something permanent. A Committee of Friends — a structured, committed circle with explicit obligations to one another. Not a casual gathering, but a covenant.
Let us build something that ensures no brother ever faces life's hardest moments alone.
A Proposal That Was Met with Yes
The unanimous agreement among those six men was not a small thing. It was a conscious choice to elevate friendship into responsibility. To say, in effect, that they would not merely care about one another in an abstract sense — they would show up. Financially. Emotionally. Consistently.
As the committee took shape, two more men were invited to join: Mr. Bertrand Chekwube Ugorji and Mr. Samson Ndenojuo. The circle grew from six to eight — but more than the number, what grew was the seriousness of purpose. These were men who understood that belonging to something meaningful required more than membership. It required character.
Choosing a Name with Intention
The name 'Moving Train' was not accidental. A train is not stationary. It does not pause for terrain, for weather, or for inconvenience. It moves forward, carrying all of its passengers together, accumulating momentum with every mile. The founders chose this image deliberately — because it expressed exactly what they intended to build.
The motto followed naturally: The Moving Train Never Stops Moving Forward. Not as an aspiration, but as a statement of identity. The organisation would not drift. It would not stall. Whatever the obstacles ahead, the train would keep moving.
From Committee to International Organisation
What began as an informal Committee of Friends evolved with remarkable speed. A constitution was drafted — a governance framework that would ensure transparency, fairness, and longevity. Executive positions were established. The club was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria, giving it official legal recognition.
Today, the Great Moving Train Social Club International has members across Nigeria, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and North America. Over ₦48 million in welfare benefits has been distributed. Three Chairmen have served. And in 2026, the club will hold its first international convention — a gathering that will bring the brotherhood face to face, across continents.
All of it traces back to one moment of grief, and one man's decision to do something about it.
The Moving Train story is not finished. Every new member who joins adds their chapter to an institution that was built to last — to outlast any single season, any individual, any circumstance. The train is still moving. And it is carrying all of its passengers forward together.
